The Bulkley Valley Backpackers (BVBS), now officially a society, celebrated the accomplishments of Barri and Einar Blix at the group’s 20th anniversary dinner on Jan. 15. About 40 members attended the dinner at the Driftwood Lodge, including some longstanding hiking advocates.

A film by the name of 180º South: Conquerors of the Useless which is about an epic journey in 1968 taken by Yvon Chouinard and Doug Tompkins to Patagonia will be the feature of an evening out at the Kispiox Community Hall next week.

Sultans of String performing this Sunday

Since their formation only four years ago, Sultans of String have been riding a wave of success, from their debut CD “Luna” and second offering “Yalla Yalla,” both hitting number one on international music charts in Canada, to their triple 2009 Canadian Folk Music Award nomination, winning Instrumental Group of the Year.
