Northwestern B.C. motocross racers gathered at the Smithers Motocross Association’s (SMXA) track on Donaldson Road last Sunday for the SMXA’s first ever race. The exhibition race drew riders from the length of Highway 16, according to Association President Dan Heideman.

Smithers resident John Hols, who recently moved here after decades in Houston, has returned from Gothenburg, Sweden with a medal after competing in the 18th World Transplant Games. Hols joined over 1,000 athletes from over 50 countries at the Games in June. The Games are open to athletes of all ages who have undergone an organ transplant.

A team of Bulkley Valley track and field athletes travelled to Coquitlam recently for the B.C. Athletics Championship Jamboree. The event took place July 15 to 17.

After a season longer than the NHL, three local swimmers from the Bulkley Valley Otters swim club recently wrapped up their season at provincial finals.

The Kyah Wiget Mens Fastball League held a tournament featuring the three Moricetown teams, the Stampeders and the Bulkley Valley Dodgers.

Local riders will have a chance to race at home next week, as the Smithers Motocross Association (SMXA) will be holding an exhibition race on Sunday, July 24 at their track on Donaldson Road, between Telkwa and Smithers.

3-in-1 breed show

The annual Tyhee Lake Triathlon took place last Sunday, and racers couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather. Under mostly sunny skies, single racers and teams took to the water, their bikes and their feet to race in three distances.

The Smithers Golf and Country Club hosted the Senior Mens Amateur Tournament last weekend, drawing the best 50 and over golfers from across the north. At the end of two days of warm, sunny play, Don Olson ended up in the top spot with a best Overall Low Gross of 144.
