Yee stands out on national level

Regan Yee proves her skill with new personal bests.

The Bulkley Valley Athletics member Regan Yee is proving to be one of the fastest runners in the country and continued to bring in gold setting new record last weekend at the annual Jack Brow Memorial meet held in Kelowna from July 1 to the 3.

The meet had entries from almost every track club in B.C. according to coach Neal Currie, who added they had large groups from Calgary and Edmonton, and also had a large group from Australia and New Zealand.

Hazelton’s Yee won all three races in the Youth Girls division (16-17 years of age) to bring home some serious hardware.

“In her 2000 metre steeple chase, she won with a personal best time of 6:58.71,” he said. “This is the second fastest time in Canada this year for Youth, but is faster than all Juniors (18-19) in Canada so far this year. She won the 800 meter by almost 4 seconds with a personal best time of 2:16.57. After running two very fast personal best times in two days, we decided to have her relax and run just fast enough to win, which she did in 4:48.18.”

Fellow track star, Jessy Zemenchik of Telkwa, won her race in the Youth Girls.

“She had planned to run the 100 metre, 200 metre, and 400 metre, but muscle stiffness and cramps prevented her from racing the 100m and 200m.” Currie explained. “She still ran a personal best of 60.08 seconds in the 400m to win by almost two seconds, and did so despite a purposefully slow start to avoid straining her muscles further.”
