The Bulkley Valley Pool held their annual Tri-It Triathlon last Sunday, drawing about 30 racers from age 5 to the Masters level.

First-time organizer Jane Hollenberg said the turnout was great, and everything ran smoothly.

“We had a lot of great volunteers, and a lot of excellent sponsors,” she said. “The weather today was perfect.”

Although the Tri-It has been running for a number of years, adults have only been included for three years now. Tamara Gillis, Facility Programmer for the pool, said this year’s adult turnout was encouraging.

“This is the most adults we’ve ever had,” she said.

In the 5 to 7 age group, Conor Murphy finished in first for the boys, followed by James Baxter and Gregory Baxter. Maria Read was the first place girl, with Elise St-Onge in second. For 8-to-9 year old boys, Jack Wellington finished first, with Logan Parker in second.

The 10 and 11 boys was one of the larger age groups. Luke Berarducci took the top boys spot, followed by Evan Doyle and Jesse Smids in second and third. Lowen Beck won the girls race, and the team of Athena, Lauryn and Ayla won the team race.

Wyatt Brook was the top boy in the 12 to 14 group, while Cassie Horning-Wandler was the top girl, and Adam, Glyn and Braydon was the first place team.

In the adult race, Larry McCulloch won the men’s division, with Eric Lilles in second. Sonya Croker was the first place woman, followed by Jane Hollenberg and Marie-Eve Gauthier. Gale, Peter and Sam, a.k.a. the Rubber Chickens, took the top team spot, with the Humpies, consisting of Melany, Patty and Lana, in second.
