Tour de North misses this area for 2011 route

After nine years of following their traditional east-west direction, the Canadian Cancer Society’s (CCS) Cops for Cancer Tour de North route will be changed this year.

The group’s planning committee announced last week that they had developed a new route.

“The committee is responding to multiple requests for engagement of additional communities,” said Terry Mitchell, who has been with the Tour de North for three years.

The new route, moving in a north-to-south direction, will begin in Fort St. John on Sept. 9.

From there riders will grit their teeth on the road through Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, Mackenize, Prince George and Quesnel. Williams Lake will be the ride’s final stop.

“Our objective is to alternate year-to-year between the north-to-south route and the east-to-west route,” said Revenue Development Coordinator for CCS’ northern region Erin Reynolds. “This will enable us to share the Tour experience between more communities in the North.”
