Smithers Curling Center hosted the Steelhead Bonspiel from Friday, Feb. 16 to Sunday, Feb. 18.
There were six ladies teams competing, of which two were from Prince George.
The winner of the Ladies Bonspiel was the team of Tyra Johnston, Jeanne McNeil, Colleen Gellein and Jen Chermesnok.
There were 14 teams that competed in the men’s bonspiel. Eight teams were visitors from Prince George, Houston, Fraser Lake, Terrace and Kitimat.
The team of Ken Herman, Doug Morris, Ron Lapadat and Mac Palmiere defeated the team of Ed Maskiwich to win the A event.
The Kitimat team of Greg Morgan, Tracey Hittel, Ian Baker and Martin McIlwrath deated the team of Trevor Sandberg to win the B event.
The team of Ron Vanderstar, Len Vanderstar, Greg Campbell and Gord Wolfe defeated the Houston team of Glen Kelly to win the C event.
The team of Greg Johnstone, Dave Johnstone, Torin Leach and Chris Nichols defeated the team of David Mio to win the D event.
The Smithers Steelhead Bonspiel was a great success especially due the visitors who came to participate and the locals who volunteered their time and energy to host such an event. Special thanks also to all the community merchants whose donations and support helped make the event possible.
