Eye4Target Soccer camps ran smoothly over spring break, and coach Paul Contumelias hopes to return for more camps in the summer.

Contumelias and his sister Sondra coached two Town of Smithers camps, one in the morning for younger players, and the other for high school aged players eager to step up their game.

“It’s pretty straight forward, and lots of fun,” Contumelias said. “They’re just having fun, and we’re trying to get them into soccer.”

With younger players, keeping them interested is key, Contumelias said.

Born and raised in Smithers, the Contumelias siblings have both played professionally with Portugal club teams. Now Paul is a paid coach in Victoria, but his hometown of Smithers will always be a soft spot for him. Contumelias said he’d love to start an academy in Smithers.

“There’s a lot of potential here,” he said.

For participant Seamus Murphy, who’s played soccer for a couple of years, the spring camps were well worth the time.

“It’s really fun, I’m enjoying soccer…it’s very fun for me, and I’m planning on going to it next year if it’s on,” Murphy said.

Registration for the summer camp is available on the Town of Smithers website at www.smithers.ca.
