Smithers Golf Club hosts Senior Mens tournament

The Smithers Golf and Country Club hosted the Senior Mens Amateur Tournament last weekend, drawing the best 50 and over golfers from across the north. At the end of two days of warm, sunny play, Don Olson ended up in the top spot with a best Overall Low Gross of 144.

Olson said the tournament was two days of great golfing.

“The golf course was in awesome shape,” he said. “I enjoyed golfing with both groups, Saturday and Sunday.”

Sunday’s draw, based on Saturday’s scores, put Olson in with the best players from the previous day.

“To me, it elevates your game a little more,” he said.

The Overall Low went to Dan Bate at 128. The First Low Gross In Flight went to Gord Young in the A Flight with 147, Larry Steinke in the B Flight with 165, and Ed Maskiewich with 182 in the C Flight. The First Low Net In Flight went to Marius Scholtz in the A Flight with 138, Gord Munroe in the B Flight with 141, and Al Ruemper in the C Flight with 139.

The Second Low Gross In Flight went to Layne Young in the A Flight with 152, Frank Beaubin in the B Flight with 170, and Manson Kennedy with 183 in the C Flight. The Second Low Net In Flight went to Jamie Robson in the A Flight with 139, Ken Zimmer in the B Flight with 143, and Kelly Jones in the C Flight with 142.

The Third Low Gross In Flight went to Rob Fraser in the A Flight with 157, Dennis Rasmussen in the B Flight with 170, and Jim McGregor with 187 in the C Flight. The Third Low Net In Flight went to Harry Vandenberg in the A Flight with 141 (CB), Mike Bundock in the B Flight with 144 (CB), and Gerald Brise in the C Flight with 144.
