Zone 11 athletes, from Smithers to Vanderhoof, came home from the 2011 B.C. Senior Games in the Kootenays recently. The games ran from August 17 to 20 in Castlegar, Nelson and Trail.

Athletes from Zone 11 won 21 medals, including eight golds, five silvers and eight bronzes.

Track and field was once again in the lead with 12 medals, Virginia Hoover winning seven of them. Unfortunately, regular medalist Adrian Meewissen was unable to attend this year.

Bocce was next, with two golds and one silver for Shirley Reitsma, Willy Bakker and Aren Bakker.

The Smithers B Team came home with a bronze medal in five pin bowling.

Next year the Games will be held in Burnaby, a more convenient location for travel and hopefully more participants.
