Saltos hits the podium in Abbotsford

Three Smithers' gymnasts post excellent results at 40-team competition

The Smithers Saltos Gymnastics club boasted some strong results from their competition in Abbotsford last weekend.

Level one gymnast Clara Pesch led the charge with her second place finish in the overall competition.

It was Pesch’s first time competing in a competition of this size.

“She did really well,” head coach Alana Jensen said.

“It was a great result for her first time out.”

Other highlights included Joseph Kindrat, who finished first overall in the level three floor competition and Madeline Moran, who placed second in the beam and fifth in the bars and on floor.

More than 40 different clubs totalling 1,000 gymnasts from around the province attended the event.

As well, the Canadian men’s national team and the Australian national team attended the event as a warm-up for another event in Vancouver.

“It was a really good competition,” Jensen said. “It was a lot of fun for the kids to watch all the national team members and the Australian team.”

Up next, the Saltos will head to Kitimat for a northwest competition in May.

They’ll host their home competition in early June.
