In an unexpected turn of events, the Bulkley Valley Wrestling team made a last-minute decision to participate in a No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu tournament this week, and the results surpassed all expectations.
Despite the unfamiliar format, the team showcased their skills and brought home an impressive collection of trophies.
On the youth side, Locke James, Tyde Elliott, and Tristan Harris represented Bulkley Valley Wrestling with exceptional performances. Each wrestler demonstrated their prowess and emerged victorious in their respective divisions.
Tyde took the top spot in his category, while Locke and Tristan secured second place, showcasing their skills through some remarkable victories.
The adult contingent of the team also left their mark on the tournament. Abishai Hunter and Amos Hunter delivered standout performances in their divisions, with Abishai securing a well-deserved second place.
Meanwhile, Reuben Hunter, Milan Elliott, and Addison Bree competed in the advanced division, showcasing their technical expertise and determination. Milan Elliot faced formidable opponents in a category with larger competitors, but still represented himself admirably.
Reuben Hunter displayed remarkable skill by defeating both the first and second-place competitors, only to be disqualified against another opponent despite holding a significant lead in points. A simple misunderstanding of the rules prevented Reuben from claiming the gold medal.
Head coach Addison Bree also showcased his own abilities on the mats, securing several early submissions and emerging victorious in his division. His leadership and success further added to the team’s impressive performance.
By participating in this No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu tournament, Bulkley Valley Wrestling not only demonstrated their adaptability and versatility but also made a strong impact within the vibrant Jiu-Jitsu community of the north.
