Three teams from the Hazelton area headed to the 52nd All Native Basketball tournament in Prince Rupert this year but all were knocked out of playoff contention early in the week.On the opening day of the week long tournament, the senior men’s team from Gitsegukla lost their first game to Lax Kw’alaams 75-46.On day two, the Kispiox Women’s team took on Simpew but fell 22-41 and the Hazelton Intermediate team was edged 71-69 by Bella Bella.Tuesday turned out to be the last day for two of the teams when Kispiox suffered a 57-28 loss to Kincolith and Gitsegukla once again narrowly missed the win coming up short with a 83-87 loss to Gitwinkshlkw. Hazelton picked up their first win although by default against the Friendship House B team and moved on to play for another day.However, they couldn’t score the win against Skidegate as they lost by 15 with the final score being 86-71 knocking them out of the competition.
