RCMP name man fatally stabbed on Friday night

Kelly Andrew Johnson facing charges of second-degree murder

The 26-year-old Smithers man fatally stabbed on Friday night has been named by RCMP as Francis George Namox.

On Feb. 7 at about 11:30 p.m. RCMP were called to a report of a stabbing in an apartment in the 1500 block of Main Street and arrived on scene to find Namox in medical distress. He was pronounced dead after being transported to Bulkley Valley District Hospital.

A charge of second-degree murder has now been laid against Kelly Andrew Johnson, 21.

Johnson will make his first appearance in Smithers Provincial Court on Tuesday.

The North District Major Crime Unit and the Smithers RCMP are continuing to investigate the incident.
