Voice silenced by vandalism

Betty Bandstra on the vandalism of a display in the field of a pro-life supporter.

I am the current chairperson of the Smithers Pro-life Board. On the morning of Mother’s Day we had a display of 73 crosses and a banner set up in a private field of a pro-life supporter.

The sign was a reminder to our community that many children in our valley also deserved a BIRTH day but they never came out of their dark womb alive.

The irony is not lost on us that the display itself could not survive one dark night; it was torn to pieces just as the child in the womb is destroyed. Those who die in the womb are truly without a voice; how sad when their voice is not allowed to be heard through a memorial display.

Our hope is that our community will begin to acknowledge that a dead child is a very poor and irreversible solution to a temporary problem.

Be a voice for the voiceless.
