Tip of the hat to volunteers

Editor:

On March 9, I had the good fortune to join with many other volunteers from the community in an RCMP Volunteer Recognition evening and dinner hosted by Citizens on Patrol. As a volunteer at the Community Policing Office since the day it opened, it is encouraging to see how many of these COP volunteers belong to other groups such as Speed Watch, Community Police and Auxiliary Police.

It is especially exciting to see the new Community Police Van with its bold and distinctive writing on the exterior. There are many opportunities to use the CPO van as it goes out to DARE activities, Speed Watch, Community Police functions and also is available for Citizens on Patrol. I remember many times when Citizen on Patrol volunteers had to use their own vehicles and fuel.

So a huge thank you to all these volunteers. I will see you out helping make Smithers a better place to live.
