Remaining resolute with resolutions

Brenda Mallory's Spice of Life column talks about keeping New Years' resolutions.

So tell me how are the New Year resolutions working for you? Or were you like me and did not make any? To be honest I was not in the right mindset to think about myself. Now the story has changed.

Living alone on this property does make it necessary to make a few resolutions. The big one for me is to make sure I am organised. Sounds sort of simplistic but I need to take care of things and make sure I don’t have to rely too much on the kindness of others. For instance, I have to make sure the wood is brought in and slippery spots taken care of. My big resolution this year is to learn how to use some of the tools waiting for my attention in the shop.

Another resolution for me is to make sure I do not become too reclusive. Friends and family are the tools that help me through.

I am not going to leave you out of this resolution game. Here is one I want all of you to make if you are still standing in the cold weather sucking away on paper and tobacco. “Stop Smoking!” Stop, I tell you! I direct this mostly to the youth. Watching a person die from lung cancer is not a pretty sight. Besides, you stink, your skin is ugly and you have a breath like the bottom of something nasty. What the heck, I tried.

Before I get carried away I will jump off my resolution podium and share a few good sayings sent to me.

“Money will buy a fine dog. Only kindness will make its tail wag.”

“If you don’t have a sense of humour, you probably don’t have any sense at all.”

“Always be yourself because the people who matter don’t mind and the people who mind don’t matter.”

“Life isn’t tied with a bow, but it’s still a gift.”

I guess what it comes down to it we should all make a resolution or two that makes sure that this gift called life unwraps as it should.

Thanks again to all of you for the kindness you have sent my way. You have called 250-846-5095 and sent e-mail notes to mallory@bulkley.net.
