Mosquitoes are sometimes just like us

Lorraine Doiron explains what's going on in town these days.

Did you know that it is only female mosquitoes who bite people in order to get blood so they can lay their eggs? The female mosquito needs amino acids in blood to make protein for her eggs. Male mosquitoes do not sting people but spend their time drinking nectar from flowers, sort of like being at the pub drinking beer with their buddies. Lots of mosquitoes out this year.

Met a really nice young man, about 11 years old, born in Wisconsin, traveling to Alaska for the first time. He is Oslo Dellinger and he and his parents are full time RV’ers right now, Canada being their second country to explore after visiting some States in the U.S. Oslo is being home schooled and was excited to tell me that when they stopped in Barkerville he got to attend school there for a day. He learned about sponges and fools gold. Oslo has my e-mail address and I hope to get updates on his travels, which I will share with you.

Closing with: The point is not to pay back kindness but to pass it on. Julia Alvarez.
