Kenyans exhibit an unmatched tenaciousness

Sonja sends her first dispatch from her latest trip to Africa

An overloaded wagon makes its way along a highway in Kenya.

I have been hearing on the news that Canada has a new Porter Airline and saw their presence at the Vancouver Airport.

When my friend and I went to Kenya in 2023 it was Delta all the way. We missed a flew fights because we couldn't give visa info at check-in We had expected to get our Visa, as usual, at the Kenya Customs Port of Entry. Delta kept rescheduling us and made sure we could reach someone at any moment.

Our current trip is with Air Canada. They rescheduled us so we had to call an agent to tweak the flight schedule. She asked how I was getting back from Nairobi to Vancouver. I was stunned because I had the printed itinerary in my hand. The computer for agents was blank.

This agent was tenacious at rebooking the flights and going through the itineraries of both my friend and I to make sure all was in order. We got to Kenya and the only problem was a beautiful, big-eared but very thin calico kitty was at our feet in the customs lineup and I was cautioned not to pick it up.

T’was a wonderful, warm and exciting greeter to the wonderful land of Kenya.

I have a lot on my mind about the logistics of air travel and thought that would be what this column is about but it is now how the Kenyans travel that is newsworthy and exciting.

If a picture is worth 1,000 words this column will be too long. There is a tenaciousness with the Kenyans barely matched anywhere.
