In reply to the union letter

A reader replies to a letter on unions.

Editor:

I‘m writing in response to Alice Doll’s letter in the July 6, 2011 Interior News (Irresponsible Unions) to correct and amplify some points set out there.

The Canada Post Corporation is a crown corporation with one shareholder - the Government of Canada. It has no tax dollars, it funds itself from services provided. It was not a strike it was a lockout, as reported here and in many other places - the employer decided to withdraw services as a tactic. The union, CUPW, made it clear from the outset that essential mail such as pension cheques, would be delivered.

Management of Canada Post and the Harper Government must accept the responsibility for any disruption.
