Looking for something to give mom for Mothers Day? Here’s an idea — a $25 gift certificate for three lunches at the Seniors’ Activity Centre (behind Coast Mountain). Sponsored by Smithers Senior Citizens’ Association. Lunch every Wednesday from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Lots of chances to visit, great food.  Tickets can be purchased at the lunch. Also a great idea for Fathers Day.

A dart tournament at the Legion on April 29, from 8 p.m. to April 30, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and May 1, at 11 a.m. Contestants will be coming from all over the province to take part. Come to watch or come to play. For more information call the legion at 250-847-5082.

Did you wonder what is going on at the old Gone Hollywood site? I met Barbara Fassnacht, the person behind Barb’s Bodacious Boutique, a clothing store for larger size women. She is thrilled to have this opportunity, planning a “soft” opening the second week in May. There will be sizes from 12 up to 1X and 6X from a German clothing line called Ulla Popken, a longtime manufacture of plus sizes with clothing from casual to dressy. Shoes are planned for later.

The People’s Food Policy reflects a wave of concern about our food system, proposing concrete steps toward a healthy, fair and environmently-friendly food system.  Visit their website for tools to keep food in the election.

Groundbreakers’ mission is to promote the production and consumption of local food at fair value by linking food consumers, producers and social service agencies together to participate in agricultural activities and education in the Bulkley Valley. Presently working on rezoning the property behind the hospital for a community garden.
