I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy to Carman Graf’s family, friends, and the communities he served.
Carman, his late wife Joan, and family sacrificed, as Smithers, Telkwa and the Bulkley Valley greatly benefited from his public service. Carman was passionate with his leadership role in our communities, and took on many challenges and opportunities to improve our quality of life.
I want to share one semi-comical incident while Carman was mayor of Smithers.
Early one Saturday morning (around 2 or 3 a.m.) Carman was woken up by a phone call from a very intoxicated resident. He was complaining about a barking dog, and wanted to know what [the mayor] was going to do about it. After a brief discussion, the conversation ended. On Wednesday morning, about the same time, Carman returned the call and asked if the dog was still barking?
Thank you Carman for your years of service.
Brian J. Northup,
Retired Mayor (Town of Smithers)
