Care is hard to come by

Editor:

One year ago I made the life changing decision to care for my aging father at home after the sudden death of my mother.  I discovered that this job was full  time and that it was impossible to do alone. I was told I should ask for help from Home Support, and when I did I  had to fight for every bit of help I got. This made no sense to me because keeping the elderly in their home saves the Government millions if not trillions of dollars a year.

Yet I found out I am not the only caregiver to experience resistance for help from the management of Home Support. It seems cut backs are more important to the government and the management.

This neglect on the part of the government and the management seems just as bad  as abuse.

The government needs to do something to change this! But as I know this probably won’t happen anytime soon, I want elderly people and their family members to know that help is there just don’t take no for an answer when you contact the long term care case manager in your community.

I intend to keep bringing this issue to the public’s attention.
