Victor Alexander Mackay

August 8, 1922 – July 13, 2009

Victor Alexander Mackay passed away peacefully at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital.

Vic was born in Carbon, Alberta to Alexander and Olive Mackay.

Vic led a full life, living in Alberta, the Kootenay region of BC, and then later in Merritt and Princeton. The last 12 years were spent in Smithers.

His passion in life was fly fishing, and he liked nothing more than being out on a lake in pursuit of a beautiful trout.

He is predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, and his brothers Fred and Don.

Vic is survived by his children Alan (Dale) of Merritt BC, Jean McCrory (George) of Blackie AB, Mickey (Shannon) of Salmon Arm BC, James (Sarah) of Edson AB, Bruce (Diane) of Smithers BC, Bob (Melanie) of Lloydminster SK, Mary Mackay of Vancouver, Hugh (Sheila) of Alix AB, and Doreen Cyr (Burke) of Drayton Valley AB and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Vic is also survived by his sisters Ruth (Albert) Hamilton, Annie (Bud) Jack, and his brother John (Diane) Mackay.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bulkley Valley Community Foundation and would be greatly appreciated.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Bulkley Lodge for caring for Vic and allowing him to live with dignity.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, July 18th, 2009 at 2:00pm in the Royal Canadian Legion with Padre George Richmond officiating. Cremation has taken place.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the R.A. Schrader Funeral Home in Smithers, BC.
