In loving memory ~

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Vera Minnie Viola Chartrand, wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She passed away at Kelowna General Hospital on January 2, 2025. She is survived by her husband Fred, daughter Valerie (Nelson), son Russell, and stepson Leonard.

Vera was born in Eagle River, Ontario to parents Herbert and Jessie Smith. She was married to Fred Chartrand for 62 years. She met Fred at a local garbage dump and love blossomed from there. Russell and Valerie were born in Dryden, Ontario and a few years later they all moved to British Columbia where they lived in 100 Mile House, Prince George, then to Fort St. John where Fred and his brother Raymond ran a logging business for 10 years. They then moved to Kelowna for 3 years before moving to Hazelton where they lived for 16 years. For the last 20 years, they have lived in Kelowna.

Vera always had a smile and loved to help people. Some of Vera and Fred's favourite things to do was pick pine mushrooms in Hazelton and pick blueberries and fish for walleye in Eagle River. For the last 10 years they stayed home, but Vera was always busy. While she helped gather bottles for Russell, she met many people that would leave bags of bottles at the end of their driveways for her. She loved to end her days playing crib, especially when she skunked Russel.

We will miss you til we meet again
