Thelma "Jean" Black, nee Thomson - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thelma "Jean" Black of Drayton Valley, Alberta on Wednesday November 15, 2017 at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre.

Mom passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jean will be forever loved and cherished by her husband of 32 years, Ken Black; children, Allen (Sue), Kenna (Andy), Sharlene, Monte (Angela), Laurie (Joe) and Kathy (Serge).

She also leaves to mourn her stepchildren, Tom (Dar), Ken Jr. (Denise), Sean, Debra (Mal), and Karen (John).

Jean (Granny) leaves behind many broken hearted grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also a very special aunt to her numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean is survived by her adoring brothers, William (Connie), Ken (Ali), Robert "Bim" (Sheila) and her life-long best friend, Shirley Kelley.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, Thelma and Ken; brother, Hugh; sister, Helen; brother in law, Edgar and son in law Robert.

Jean will always be remembered for being a wonderful cook, a colourful story teller and a talented quilter. She loved to feed people and loved to share a recipe, her freezer jam and cinnamon buns are legendary. In keeping with mom's wishes a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

For the wonderful and compassionate care provided to mom, her family would like to thank all of the staff at the Drayton Valley Hospital, especially Dr. Froud and chemotherapy Nurse Tanya Hines.
