February 5, 1943 - February 7, 2025

We are saddened to announce the passing of Stanley Joseph Granda on February 7, 2025, at the age of 82.

Stan was born St. Boniface, Manitoba on February 5, 1943, to Joseph and Pauline. At a young age, his family moved to Toronto. Though he grew up in Canada's largest city, he also enjoyed spending time in the rural surroundings of his family's farm. Stan was always a protective big-brother to his sister, Colleen.

In his mid-teens, Stan was introduced to Ukrainian folk dancing. His passion for dance, and performing, quickly grew. As part of a Ukrainian dance ensemble, Stan danced throughout Canada, the United States and even in Ukraine. When he moved to Vancouver in the 70s, he continued to dance, was a professional choreographer, and started his own dance company.

Stan's athletic abilities also extended to sports. He was a long-time baseball and soccer player and fan. Even if Stan wasn't the most skilled player on the field, he made sure he was the hardest working. Moving to Smithers in the 90s, Stan became a well-known fixture in the local darts community. He racked up many trophies over the years, including two provincial titles. He was inducted into the Bulkley Valley Dart League Hall of Fame in 2002.

Professionally, Stan was trained as a printmaker and you might also remember him as the Purolator driver for many years. Outside of work, he loved to fish in the lakes and rivers across the Bulkley Valley. In recent years, Stan took up carpentry. He spent many hours coming up with new designs and techniques to perfect his projects, and family and friends will forever cherish the beautiful tables he made for them. Stan was a big reader, especially about history and politics. He was always willing to share his thoughts on issues and enjoyed a good debate.

Stan was a member of the Smithers Legion, Branch 63, for more than two decades. He worked hard to support local veterans, their families, and his community. He spent several years as President of the executive, and was honoured with a lifetime membership to the Smithers Legion in 2019.

Stan will be missed dearly by his sister, Colleen, his nephews, close friends and the Oud family.
