Stan Groot

June 22, 2021

March 3, 1963 - June 22, 2021
In Loving Memory ~
Stan Groot was called to his eternal home on June 22, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. Stan always loved life and lived it to the fullest.
As a young boy, he enjoyed playing hockey, baseball and fishing at Chicken Creek. He never cared much for schoolwork and "graduated" after grade 10 to work for his dad at Groot Logging.
In his early 20's, he moved to the lower mainland, where he partnered with Don Talstra in buying Fraser Box in Richmond. Fourteen years later, they sold that company and started Canada Floral Greens in Langley. Together Stan and Don were business partners for over 28 years and in 2014 they sold out and Stan retired.
Stan decided to move back to Smithers where he enjoyed retirement life, spending time with family, camping and fishing with his buddies at Babine Lake, holidaying and fishing in Cabo San Lucas. Stan had a big heart and was fun-loving, generous, and kind. There was never a dull moment when he was around.
He valued his companionships, was a loyal friend to others and loved to do whatever he could to lend a helping hand. Stan was called uncle by more than just his nieces and nephews. His nickname was "Uncle Stan the Candy Man", as he always liked to spoil the kids with candies, treats and ice cream. They knew he had a pocket full of candies that he would eagerly share with them on Sundays, before and after church services.
Over this past winter, Stan was experiencing a lot of pain, and in the spring was diagnosed with throat cancer. Even though the road ahead of him was going to be difficult with the cancer treatments, he looked forward to beginning chemo and radiation, hopeful it would ease his pain and that good health would be just around the corner.
God had other plans for Stan. After only two weeks of being at the cancer clinic, He took Stan home to be with Him, free of pain and sorrow. We feel so blessed by all the joy that Stan brought into our lives. On behalf of Stan and the family we are so thankful to ALL those that have been there for him during his illness. Thanks to Dr. Morkel, for his friendship, his medical care and help in Stan's health. Stan was well cared for and well loved by so many of his friends and family.
"The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1
