April 15, 1949 - March 26, 2025

Gracious and full of gratitude to the end, Jane died in Victoria on March 26, 2025, of cancer. Jane was our sparkplug. She ignited fun and warmth and never seemed to run out of projects. She is survived by her partner of 30 years, Bill Stephens, her children, Dan Blue (Diane) and Cary Blue (Brenda), and her sisters Kaye and Tona, her 4 grandchildren, Ashley, Melissa, Lauren and Journey, and her 7 nephews and nieces, Janet, Murray, Megan, Thomas, Paul, Wesley and Sadie Jane. She loved them all and they all loved her back.

Jane was born in Smithers on April 15,1949 to Janet and Gordon Hetherington, little sister to Teri. Later, she gained - and entertained - two more sisters and went on observing people and collecting friends and stories throughout her childhood. She met and married her first husband Bob in Smithers, before moving away to various northern towns. With Bob, she had her two wonderful sons. She moved back to Smithers in the early 80s and lived in Smithers until 2021, when she moved with Bill down to her much-loved Victoria, where she enjoyed her daily ocean walks. In her time here, she added to her wonderful collection of friends, playing golf and organizing mini tournaments at locations throughout Greater Victoria.

Jane will be forever remembered for her loyalty and love for her friends, family and old dogs, her generosity and empathy, zest for life and love of a good joke.

Jane, you are now and will always be missed. The essence of you will remain in all of us.

The family sincerely thanks the VicWest Palliative Care Team for the wonderful attention and kindness they provided to all of us during the path of this heartbreaking disease and the care and compassion they showed Jane during her final days.

A celebration of Jane's incredible life will take place in Smithers later in the year.
