It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Sandy Nixon, an amazing wife, mother and friend. After a short second battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully at the age of 51 in Smithers, BC surrounded by family and friends. Sandy was born in St. James, Manitoba, spent her childhood in Nepean, Ontario and her teen years in Calgary where she met Kevin. Together they ventured to Jasper to work in the ski industry. After numerous moves they eventually landed in Northern BC where Sandy pursued her career as a dental assistant. Sandy and Kevin were married in 1991, welcomed Olivia in 2001 and Drew in 2005. Sandy loved all things crafty and spending time outdoors. Many hours were spent creating costumes, camping, fishing, and enjoying nature with her family.
Sandy is lovingly survived by her husband Kevin and daughters, Olivia & Drew.
One touch. One smile. One laugh. It's all you ever needed to fall in love with Sandy. She lived life through the eyes of courage. The lenses of positivity and grace. Sandy consistently exchanged impossibilities for challenges and inspired others to do the same. The countless amount of hair she whipped into a bun during a quick change, the strength she exuded to so many fearing their trip to the dentist, and her undeniable skill and obsession with the label maker. She was a gift. An angel placed in our lives to demonstrate the value in opportunity and experience. Sandy's greatest passion stemmed from her need to help others. Her incomparable selflessness and support for all those around her. Speaking to Sandy for only a few minutes, you could understand the significance family had in her life. Her daughters, Olivia and Drew, would tell you that their mom was by far their biggest fan. Kevin would agree, and then add a sassy comment about how much time they had spent at the studio. She loved with her entire heart, never giving anyone a reason to second-guess themselves. No matter the circumstances, she had a way of lighting up the room in unexplainable ways.
Sandy's celebration of life was held Saturday July 13th at Evelyn Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, Sandy would love if people donated to the Creative Roots Dance Bursary and Studio.
The donation account has been set up at Bulkley Valley Credit Union under the name - "Donations for Sandy Nixon" #17175382.
