In Loving Memory ~

Ruth Mesich, beloved resident of Smithers BC, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2024, at the Bulkley Lodge. Born on February 26, 1927, in the Kispiox Valley to Anne and John Love, Ruth was preceded in death by her siblings Francis, Dorothy, Bill, Wally, Thelma, and her twin sister Esther.

In her early 20s, Ruth moved to Quesnel where she worked for the government in the agriculture sector. During that time, she and Emil courted over the distance between Smithers and Quesnel. They married in 1951.

Together, they founded Smithers Air Service and shared a loving home on Dohler Flats until Emil's passing in 1982. Though they did not have children of their own, Ruth and Emil opened their hearts and home to many children over the years.

Ruth was a woman of many talents. She held a pilot's license and worked for Smithers Air, and served as a dedicated housekeeper at the Bulkley Lodge. She had a green thumb and excelled in gardening and food preservation as well as in sewing, upholstery, needlepoint, quilting, and painting.

After Emil's passing, Ruth found companionship with Ed Malkow until his death in 1998. Following Ed's passing, her twin sister Esther came to live with her until they moved together to the Bulkley Lodge in 2015.

Ruth will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her extended family and friends. The family would like to give a big thank you to the staff of the Bulkley Lodge for the great care and support they gave her.

A small Memorial Tea will be held in the spring of 2024 to honor both Ruth and Esther's memory.

May Ruth's legacy of love and kindness live on in the hearts of those she touched.
