“Ron”

Nelson – Ronald Roy

July 12, 1954 to March 11, 2009

It is with great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our son, brother, uncle and great uncle “Ron” at the age of 54 in his home at Smithers, B.C. on March 11, 2009.

Survived by his parents, Harvey & Gladys Nelson, Sister Carol Gobes (Robert), Brother Larry Nelson (Cynthia), Sister Nancy Gleason (Chris) also seven Nieces & Nephews, (Monique, Sarah, Travis, Jaret, Brett, Taryn, Devon, and one Great-Nephew Blake. Numerous friends from the Courtenay, Burnaby, Coquitlam and Smithers areas.

Ron was born in Comox, B.C. and spent his first 15 years living in Courtenay, B.C. then moved to Burnaby B.C. with his family where he finished High School. Then on to Vancouver and Coquitlam where he started his working years with BCM Manufacturing as a Head Shipper/Receiver for the next 21 years. Then in 1995 he relocated to the Smithers area, close to where his sister Nancy and family resided.

Ron had a number of careers over his lifetime, namely Shipper/Receiver, Industrial First-Aide Attendant, Cook, PreApprentice Butcher/Meat Cutter and Flag Person. His real passion was the outdoors where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, biking. He also loved to play guitar and enjoyed all types of music. Ron was very community- minded and volunteered with the Bulkley Valley Search & Rescue and CASARA (Civil Air Search & Rescue Association). Ron was very handy with a saw and a hammer and always helped friends and family with all kinds of home repairs. His strength, kindness and humour made him the special and unique person that he was. He can never be replaced, he will always be in our hearts. He is still with us, we just can’t see him.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held in the Chapel of the R.A. Schrader Funeral Home, Smithers B.C. on April 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a gathering at the Smithers Legion Hall at 3:00 p.m.
