We are sad to announce the passing of our dad, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson, predeceased by his wife Maria Krahe (2008)
Left to mourn are his children Angelika Langen (Peter), Karsten Krahe (Candice) and Uwe Krahe (Leigh).
How does one sum up a life so full of purpose? Our dad's dream had always been to move to Canada. At age 22 he immigrated, but circumstances made his stays (though often as lengthy as a year) never the indented full time move. In Germany he was known for his building expertise and worked in the building industry for many years. While in Canada he was a logger, tabaco picker or farm hand and loved it all. In 1976 his dream became reality with his purchase of a property at the end of Adams Rd in the Bulkley Valley. Here he was truly happy raising sheep, building a new house and for income building houses or fireplaces in the valley.
He was also an avid bird lover and in Germany succeeded in various world first breeding's of Songbirds in human care. In 1960 he received his first owl, and a lifelong love affair began. He became a renowned owl expert worldwide and founded the Driftwood Research and Breeding Center for Owls. There he not only studied and bred owl species from all over the world, but also initiated and/or participated in owl projects around the world. He shared his knowledge in several books and articles.
Our family wishes to extend a special Thank You to the staff at the Bulkley Lodge and their efforts to care for him for many years.
