August 10, 1953 - April 2, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with deep sorrow, and much love, that we mourn the passing of Randall Mark Bruhjell (Randy) of Smithers BC, on April 2, 2022 at the age of 68.
Randy was born to Donn and Helen Bruhjell, on August 10, 1953, in Smithers BC. The 2nd born out of 5 children, Randy grew up helping on the family farm and its dairy production.
During this time he fell in love with horses and the freedom of the mountains, which developed his adventurous heart.
As a teen, he loved riding his motorcycle, playing baseball at the Driftwood school, and kicking up his heels at the local community halls. Randy was a proud member of the Evelyn 4H Club, where he became president, secretary and won many awards including Herdsman of the Year, Grand and Reserve Champion, and many honours in showmanship with his cattle.
After Randy graduated from Smithers Secondary School, he begin running loader for Lychak Bros and then later purchased his first gravel truck. It was at that time he met his first wife Rhonda Thornton, they married in 1974, and had their daughter, Rebecca, in 1976.
A few years later, Donn and Randy came to together as Bruhjell Trucking and started the milk haul. Throughout the years Randy remained self-employed, switching to logging and then to highway hauling for Arrow Transport.
In 1995, Randy married Brenda Dumas and went onto have two children, Trenton and Bobbi. To be closer to home, he went back to hauling logs in around the Valley and Houston. Outside of work, he would spend most of his time exploring the backcountry with his family and helping out on the farm.
Randy was a true cowboy. His love for the farm, and his community ran deep. He poured his heart and soul into his work, the farm and his family.
Randy was an avid outdoorsman, and he was happiest when he was out shing, camping or on horseback. His love for the outdoors brought out the happy, free-spirit that defined him.
He was also very passionate about learning about family ancestry, the history of the Bulkley Valley and loved to share his knowledge with his friends and family.
Randy's pride and joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. Spending time with them camping and fishing is a special memory everyone will cherish. Anyone who knew Randy was touched by his kindness, compassion, and sense of humour. He was truly a devoted father, son and brother, who never hesitated to help anyone in need. Randy has left many meaningful and happy memories with those who knew and loved him, memories that will be with them always. His friends and family will continue to honour his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Randy is survived by his two daughters Rebecca Bruhjell (David), and Bobbi Gammie (Colton). He also leaves behind his grandchildren MacEwan, Aven and Hunter; Mother, Helen Bruhjell; Sisters, Debbie White (Trevor), Tanya Holenstein (Guido), Linda Bruhjell and Linda Bruhjell (Rick).
