Pieterman Groot was born in Andijk, Netherlands on September 22, 1909. He was the youngest of three children born to Dirk and Johanna Groot. He married Ida Nierop on December 17, 1031. While in Holland they had three children.
Pieterman and his family immigrated to Canada in April 1938 and bought a small piece of land near Houston, B.C. Pieterman was a farmer. He and Ida had three more children.
In 1959 the family moved to Smithers. Pieterman worked for his sons at Groot Logging. He retired in 1973.
His wife, Ida, passed away in November 1976. In his retirement years he gave tours of Groot Logging, gardened for others and loved to walk.
He moved into the Silverking Court in March 1994. In April 1999 he moved into the Bulkley Lodge. He loved it there. He had many good friends and he appreciated the staff so much.
He will be remembered for his faithful walk with God.

John and Claire Groot
And by 27 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.
