In loving memory ~
Dad was born on January 23, 1931 in Kitwanga BC to parents Maria and Oleksa Kryklywyj. He spent his childhood and early teen years in Kitwanga on the farm. Dad loved mechanics and trying to figure out how things worked. This love was what sent him to Edmonton to further his education in this field. While there, he went to his sister's in-laws in Didsbury Alberta for Thanksgiving and when there met Mom - the love of this life. They were married in 1953. Mom and Dad lived in High River Alberta and had their first daughter. They then moved to Telkwa, daughter number 2, on to Kitwanga, daughter number 3 and then settled in Telkwa, daughter number 4. Dad used to always tease that he was thrilled he didn't haven't any boys because he knew the things he used to do and was afraid a boy would be the same. Hearing these stories over the years....it probably was a good thing! During this time, Dad worked at Dall's shop in Telkwa and was able to showcase his knowledge of diesel mechanics. Dad always had a thirst for knowledge which never ran dry. His career was mainly diesel mechanic but he did spend a number of years operating his own business of trucking - Mack trucks of course! Growing up, we had neighbours Asa and Elizabeth Robinson (Grandpa and Granny). Grandpa passed on the knowledge of the Telkwa BBQ to Dad and from this he became Mr BBQ. He was involved with the Telkwa BBQ for 50 years. For many of these years Dad was very active in the Kinsmen Club, he was a life member and was also Deputy Governor for the North Coast Zone. This brought a lot of travel and events. We remember the parades both Mom and Dad were involved in, the costumes she would sew! He was also a very active member of the Telkwa Volunteer Fire Department. In the late 70's, Mom and Dad embarked on their dream - to build their own house. They did just that and Dad remained on the property until 2018 when it just became too much to handle. That property was everything to Mom and Dad. While there, they would welcome their 5 grandchildren into the family. The grandchildren were everything to Mom and Dad. Later on in life, as things settled down some, Mom and Dad were very active in the Telkwa Seniors and the Just Us Band. Oh he loved music! Even during this last days, music was played in his room so he could be at peace. We know this brought him comfort.
Dad was predeceased by his parents Maria and Oleksa Kryklywyj, wife Joy, daughter Mary, sons in laws Norm and Jeff and siblings Katharina, Kaye, Victoria, Alice and Ron.
Dad is survived by his daughters Patti Kryklywyj, Connie Mann and Audrey (John Shortreid), grandchildren Mallory Kryklywyj (Katy Roden), Bre Edey, Genine Asress, Bryan Perreault and Michael (Janice) Blabey. He also leaves 4 beautiful great grandchildren, Hadassah, Isaiah and Rebekah Asress and Remi Blabey. There is only one sibling left, Natalia Sargent of Quesnel BC. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and very special friends Roy and Lil Chick and their family.
We are really going to miss Dad, he was very special in our lives. On his request, we will have a gathering next summer.
We would like to extend a very special thank you to Dad's niece Janet Mould who spent time with Dad, Roy and Lil Chick for all their support, and the very special nurses, doctors and other staff at Bulkley Valley District Hospital who made his stay more bearable.
Well Dad, you were right, it has been one hell of a ride!
