In Loving Memory ~
Peter Hinchliffe, aged 81, passed away on January 1st, 2022 in Hazelton, British Columbia.
He was born in Burns Lake, BC, the son of Arthur and Annie Hinchliffe. He attended school in Smithers and Terrace and then moved to Victoria to learn to assemble church pipe-organs.
In the mid-60s he returned to Smithers and worked for the Forestry and then the Department of Highways operating road building and road maintenance equipment in the Hazelton and Kispiox areas. Peter reliably kept the Kispiox Valley roads in good shape for years.
Peter built a cabin on a property in the picturesque Kispiox Valley where he enjoyed gardening and time with a succession of Border Collies: Tippy, Penny, Chips and Lady. He looked after the Bear Claw property for many years for the owners who were great friends. Many family and friends shared special times at his place in the bush and at Bear Claw.
He enjoyed music and played the organ at numerous churches in the area. In recent years he moved to a house in Old Hazelton.
Peter kept in close telephone contact with many friends and relatives in Canada and England and his many dear friends in Hazelton and the Kispiox.
Peter is survived by brothers Ed in Smithers and Jim (Donna) in Winfield and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by parents Arthur and Annie, sister June and brother David.
Huge thanks to friends and hospital staff for the care he received in later years.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
