August 13, 2020
On August 13, we lost our beloved Paul when he was hit by a vehicle while cycling.
Paul leaves behind his wife, Kristen; 20-month-old son; father, Greg; mother, Corinne; sister, Kristin (Brett); two nieces; father-in-law, Bob (predeceased by mother-in-law, Sharon); and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He will also be deeply missed by the many dear friends he has shared a rope, skin track, trail, river, or beer with over the years.
Paul was deeply principled, which was evident throughout his legal career and in his recent work as Crown Counsel in Smithers. He loved good food, good wine, and a good joke. His friends were very familiar with his razor-sharp wit and the mischievous smile and twinkle in his eye that signaled a real zinger was coming. His passion in life was pushing himself in the mountains - skiing powder, climbing granite or ice, or riding his mountain bike - but his greatest joy was bringing a smile to the face of his little boy.
While we hope to gather and raise a glass to Paul in future, in the meantime, those who loved Paul are encouraged to honour his memory in a way that celebrates what was important to him: skip out of work early, head to the hills for some fun, and follow it up with a good bottle of wine shared with the people you love.
We are compiling a book of memories and stories for Paul's son; to contribute please follow up with the family. We gratefully decline flowers and offer our gratitude for the incredible outpouring of support we have received.
