Otto Hagman

1947-2015

Otto was born in Houston, BC on May 29th, 1947 as the fourth child and only son of Harry and Dolly Hagman. Otto lived in Houston and Smithers all of his life and loved the Bulkley Valley as it was home.

Otto was a businessman in Houston and Smithers but even more important than his business life was his family life. Otto loved to spend time with his friends and family. Countless weekends and holidays were spent at Babine Lake where he loved to fish, go boating and water skiing, and relaxing around the camp fire with family and friends. Babine Lake had a special place in his heart. Later in life it was family vacations in places like Hawaii and St. Thomas. Otto loved to curl and spent many a winter weekend playing bonspiels with his friends. One of Otto’s biggest passions was playing cribbage, especially with family members like his mother, sisters, in-laws and son.

Otto loved his family more than anything and spent his entire life to ensure that they were properly taken care of and could be successful in life. His daughter Shelly had a special place in his heart as she needed him the most.

Otto passed away peacefully in his home on December 16th, 2015 after a long, bravely fought battle with cancer. Otto will be forever missed and in our hearts.

A Memorial Service for Otto was held on Dec.22nd in the Smithers United Church.

The Hagman family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and gifts of food, flowers, and many cards. A special thanks to the visitors who came to spend time with Otto, also to the home care nursing team who did their very best to keep him comfortable. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
