In memory of

Oepke Geert Hartman

May 2, 1931 to July 14, 2011

When the Father says, “Come home,” and opens the door,

We’re sad because we cannot see our loved ones anymore,

And yet we know, beyond that door they’re in a glorious place

Where everything is perfect, where they see the Saviour’s face,

And He will send His spirit down to soothe

each grieving heart

Until we join our loved ones, home at last....no more to part.

Oepke Geert Hartman was born May 2, 1931, in Veendam, the Netherlands. He was the third of eight children born to Jurjen and Doedtje Hartman. As a young man he delivered bread, worked in a bowling alley, and also worked in a coal mine. He and his young family immigrated to Canada in April 1957, and took up residence in Telkwa, where he has lived ever since. He worked in various jobs in the logging industry. He did whatever he had to do to provide for his family. In 1977, he purchased Midway Service and worked there until his retirement. He was an active member of the Telkwa Fire Department, and also served on the village council. He enjoyed climbing mountains, working in his garden, playing soccer, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Oepie also thoroughly enjoyed being in the church choir, and played countless games of Scrabble. At age 70 he biked to Mexico and shortly thereafter did a bike trip in Europe. Oepie was diagnosed with cancer in January 2010, which eventually took his life. He lived his life in accordance with God’s Word, and even when faced with trials and difficult circumstances, his faith never wavered. He is now singing with the choirs of heaven, glorifying and praising his Maker.

“Don’t worry about tomorrow,

for tomorrow will take care of itself.”
