Murray May, born in Millwood, Manitoba on September 26, 1923, died peacefully in hospital in Smithers on November 7, 2014 at the age of 91 surrounded by his family.

It is with sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather. Murray is survived by his wife Frances, children: Kathy (Carl), Bill (Ann) and Fred (Betty-Anne); grandchildren: Jude (Lana), Christopher (Meggan), Tyler (Stephanie), Devon, Lucas, Brittany and Carly as well as great grandchildren: Addison and Brooklyn.

Murray moved to Smithers with his wife Frances in 1956 where he worked for O’Neills Garage for many years and retired from the Department of Highways in 1983.

Murray loved to curl, bowl, and cross country ski in the winter months. In the summer time he would golf and take long walks. He and Frances enjoyed many trips overseas to visit Frances’s family.

They enjoyed camping as well as countless weekends at their cabin at Babine Lake. Murray was a life time member of the Smithers Elks Club tirelessly volunteering at whatever great project the Elks took on.

It was Murray’s wish to not have a formal service so the family is requesting that if you wish to make donation in Murray’s memory to the Hospice Society: PO Box 8, Smithers, BC V0J 2N0.

The family would like the opportunity to say a very heartfelt thank you to all of the wonderful staff at the hospital for their caring, compassionate and respectful treatment during this difficult time.
