Mrs. Valerie Vivian MASON

MASON, Mrs. Valerie Vivian, passed away on April 15, 2006 in the Bulkley Valley District Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 68 years.

Val was born the youngest of eight children in Vancouver, B.C. She then moved to Regina and later returned to Vancouver as a young teenager where she soon met Don. They were married in 1959 and in 1964 moved to Smithers. Val was involved in the local Art Gallery as well as enjoyed being with her Bridge group. Over the years she enjoyed gardening and especially working with her dried flowers. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, who she leaves behind with loving and happy memories of a wonderful “Granny.”

Val is survived by her husband Don Mason, children Bob (Tracy) Mason (Amanda and Kyle), Rick (Cheryl) Mason (Connor and Todd), Cathy (Tim) Veenstra (Adam, Joel and Jenna, brother KennEth Ryan, sisters Phyllis Shaver, Doreen Ryan, Beverly Morgan, Dodie Fisher. She is predeceased by her brother Clayton Ryan and sister Betty McGregor.

A service of remembrance for Valerie was held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Smithers Anglican Church with Rev. D. Moser officiating. Memorial tributes to the B.C. Cancer Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Cremation and memorial arrangements were entrusted to the R.A. Schrader Funeral Home, Smithers, B.C. 847-2441.
