MELVIN (MEL) ARTHUR RAYMOND

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Mel was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Smithers and lived his entire life there. He passed away peacefully Feb. 4, 2003, at the age of 86, in Smithers’ Bulkley Lodge, with his children at his side.

Mourning his loss are daughter Joyce (Brian) of Sooke, B.C., son Bill (Sandra) of Smithers, as well as his cherished grandchildren: Tanya (Roger) of Chilliwack, Darren (Samantha) of Red Deer, and Blair (Krisdeanne) of Calgary; his great-grandchildren Taylor, Logan and Jordyn of Chilliwack and Kirtus of Calgary; his brothers Paul (May) of Vernon, and Jasper (Rita) of Salmon Arm. He is also survived by three nephews, one niece and many friends.

Mel was predeceased by his wife Helene in 1976, grandson Michael Leckie in 1992, and sister Amelia in 1991.

Mel lived a full life and contributed in many ways to the community by his active enrolment in many organizations. He was well known in the hardware business for many years. Although his interests were wide and varied, he was mainly committed to his family. Mel was proud to be a lifelong member of the Masons.

A memorial service and reception was held Mon. Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. in the Smithers United Church with Rev. Peggy Jensen officiating. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations given to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Bulkley Lodge Special Care Unit, Box 3640, Smithers, B.C., V0J 2N0, would be greatly appreciated.

The Raymond family would like to sincerely thank the caregivers for their gentle and kind care throughout his illness.
