July 21, 1927 - April 29, 2021
Mary Melvina McCrea (nee Slater) passed away peacefully at the Bulkley Lodge in Smithers, BC on April 29, 2021 at the age of 93, and went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.
Mary was born to Lawrence and Marie Slater (nee Habecker) on July 21, 1927. She is predeceased by her parents, late husband Ellwood McCrea, sisters: Ruth and Lorna, and brothers: Bill, Keith, Walter, Alfred, Harold, and Donald.
Mary wed Ellwood Stanley McCrea on November 27, 1950 at Calvary Baptist Church in Arnprior, ON. Together, Mary and Ellwood had 2 children - Gwendolyn Marie (Ray) - Kelowna, BC., and Ellwood Douglas (Sheryl) - Smithers, BC. - who survive them along with grandchildren - Marie, Rebecca, Jordyn, and Zachary - and step-grandchildren - Rayna, Michael, and Carly.
Mary's faith in Jesus Christ as Lord was exemplified in her daily life. "I, the Lord, remember thee!". She attempted to live by JOY - Jesus first, others next, yourself last. Her ministry of 57 years at Calvary Baptist Church included playing the piano as well as other positions of service. Mary was also actively involved with The Gideon organization.
Following high school graduation, Mary received her diploma from Taber Business Colleges. Thru the years she enjoyed working with Arnprior Hydro, tirelessly alongside Ellwood in McCrea Electric, and Veterans Affairs in Ottawa, prior to retirement.
After Ellwood's death, Mary moved to British Columbia to be closer to her children, and where she loved and cherished the grandchildren. She often played the piano and enjoyed a good game of Scrabble and cup of tea with friends.
Mary's infectious smile and warm welcome will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Mary flew back home to Arnprior to be laid to rest next to Ellwood. Mary's life will be celebrated in a private family ceremony.
