February 16, 1931 - January 18, 2022
Predeceased by son Dave and siblings Billy, John and Betty.
Mourned by her children: Gord (Mary Lou), Jock (Debbie), Cathie (Ralph), Pat (Barb) and Claire.
Grandchildren: Darcie, Aaron, Dylan, Jason, Jaqueline, Lisa, James, Alana, Lucas and an ever-growing list of great and great-great-grandchildren.
Mourned by her longtime partner of over 40 years, Jack Wertz, and his family that she adopted: Dave (Sharie), Don, Martha, and Jean.
First, she was Margaret Strathern, a vivacious raven-haired beauty who stole hearts in Vancouver, remembered to this day.
Then, she was Margaret Wadley, moving north to Hazelton to raise 4 kids as a single mother. There she became Two Mile Maggie in those days remembered by so many.
Then, she was Margaret Clay, owner, hostess and head cook at Sportsman's Lodge in the Kispiox, (greying a little, but still a beauty in and out) and raising a new son.
Mom was adventurous and always up for a new challenge whether it was exploring the back roads of Smithers and Hazelton in a 53 Ford, living on a fish buying barge on the BC coast, or travelling the world and wintering in Mexico with Jack.
She made lifelong friends instantly and treasured them no matter how much time had gone by. She was classy, kind, generous to a fault, and always late. We are broken-hearted but so proud of her, and proud to have lived life with her.
She had such an indomitable spirit, the bird feeder outside her window spun as she left us on that calm evening. She possessed a fierce will that we honour, and it will live on through all her offspring.
We are so grateful to the staff at Bulkley Lodge for their care and kindness over the last while. There will be no service at this time but there will be a get together later in the year.
