June 24, 1920 - March 15, 2021
Mary Chernowas, 100, of Smithers BC, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother went into the presence of the Lord on March 15th, 2021.
Mary died peacefully at the Bulkley Lodge. She was born on July 24th, 1920 in the Municipality of Mossy River, Manitoba to John Krokosh and Jene Gregorash. She grew up in a farming community near Fork River, Manitoba helping with the homestead.
Mary was the oldest family member of 13 siblings and is survived by, Eileen Pakulak, Anne Degelman and Walter Krokosh. She enjoyed being part of a church community, gardening, flowers, baking and always had time for drop in visitors.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Walter Chernowas on June 10, 2016. They celebrated their 78th Anniversary together and both were within reach of their 101st birthdays. Mary is survived by daughters Helen Tahara, Elizabeth Grant (Terry), Florence Wojak (Len Sider) and son Earl Chernowas (Audrey); 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and many other family and friends.
Mary built her life around her family, friends and church community. Her love, strength, care and prayers will be greatly missed.
Due to COVID restrictions a Celebration of Life may be held on a later date. The family is extremely grateful for the care given by the sta at the Bulkley Lodge.
