Mary Alice Finch, nee Calderwood, passed away peacefully on June 29th at the Bulkley Lodge. Born in Smithers February 1944, Mary Alice attended Smithers Elementary School, (now Muhiem Memorial) and graduated from Smithers Secondary School. She worked for her mother, Marge Calderwood, at RW Calderwood Insurance Agency, subsequently taking over the company from Marge upon her retirement. Mary Alice was involved in her community, participated in the Credit Union, worked on the Smithers Fall Fair and throughout her life volunteered in many other community endeavours.
Upon retirement, Mary Alice had more time to pursue her passions of quilting, gardening, spending time at her Babine Lake cabin, enjoying her beloved grandchildren and visiting with family and friends.
She also enjoyed traveling around Canada and the world. Her love for genealogy led to finding and visiting cousins in Tuscany, Italy. She visited Asia with her daughter and frequently visited her son in Montreal. She also enjoyed frequent visits with her sisters in Victoria and Ottawa, friends in Vancouver, and relatives in Virden, Manitoba.
Mary Alice will be especially remembered by her daughter Karen Berg and son Kevin Finch; grandchildren Adam, Luke, Jake, Kate and Shane Berg; sisters, Judy Morgan, Lorraine Calderwood-Parsons, and Jackie MacIntyre; brothers-in-law, Claire Moisey, Chuck Morgan, Vic Parsons, and Don MacIntyre; and special friends, Murray and Shirley Hawse, and Terrie McAloney; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary Alice was pre-deceased by her sister Jean Moisey, her mother Marge Calderwood, and her father Roy Calderwood.
The family would like to extend its thanks to the staff of Bulkley Valley District Hospital and Bulkley Lodge. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
