Martin E. Groote

Martin, age 49, died October 20, 2011 at St. Paul’s Hospital, Palliative Care Unit in Saskatoon. The Memorial Service was held on October 25, 2011 at 7 pm at Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church (1201 Broadway Avenue South).

Martin was born February 21, 1962, in Herford, Germany to Herta and Ernst Eickmeier.

In 1978, he completed his training as a banker. In May 1985, Martin married Barbara. Two years later their son, Jonathan, was born. Martin graduated with a Diploma in Banking in 1989. He worked as Investment Advisor and Compliance Officer.

In 1994 the family moved from Germany to Smithers, BC where Martin started to work in different jobs before he rediscovered his gifts for banking in 2002. Until the family relocated to Saskatoon, SK he worked at the Bulkley Valley Credit Union in Smithers, BC as Commercial Loans Officer. In 2006, he started working at the Canadian Western Bank in Saskatoon, and soon became a knowledgeable and esteemed Senior Manager in Commercial Banking.

Martin’s deep faith and trust in a gracious and loving God guided him through life. He was a loyal and dependable employee, colleague, mentor, and leader. Besides work he was a committed volunteer within and outside of the Church. He played different sports, especially enjoying soccer and running. He loved the arts, cooking and hosting, dancing, a good book, passionate debates, and movies. Above all, for Martin family came first. He was the most loving, caring, and supportive father and husband.

Martin is survived by his wife Barbara, his son Jonathan; his sister Regina (Norbert) Schüller, his brother Heinz (Alexandra); several nieces and nephews; his parents-, brother- and sister-in-law and their families, extended family, and close friends. He was predeceased by his parents.

Martin’s quiet steadfastness, his dry sense of humor, his gentleness, and his genuine friendliness will be greatly missed.
