In Loving Memory ~
It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear Mark Hall.
Mark was born on September 9, 1961, and left us on September 15, 2023. He was peacefully surrounded by his loving wife, caring mothers (in law) and devoted friends.
Mark was born in Brandon Manitoba and came to the valley with his family when he was six. Throughout his childhood, Mark was known for his energetic spirit. He was often on the go outside exploring nature. As a teenager Mark was quite athletic.
Many years were spent on the ski hill with his family. Mark started with the Nancy Greene ski program and quickly became very dedicated to this passion. In later years, he and his buddies often travelled BC for competitions. Together they could be found in the "Out of Bound" area of the mountain, finding the most extreme places to ski. Mark accumulated many friends along the way, who he fondly thought of until the end.
Some of Mark's favorite pastimes were snowmobiling, camping, spending time with family and friends, but his greatest passion was fishing. Mark was the happiest standing on the riverbank, sitting in a boat on the lake or enjoying time on the ocean. He did and loved it all.
In 1992, he landed his greatest catch when he met his future wife, Christy. They quickly became partners and started building their life together. They were married on September 16, 1996, in Victoria BC. They settled in Telkwa and were happily married for 27 years.
During his working years, Mark worked with his family at OK Tire. In 1996, Mark went out on his own and started with PIR on the production line at the sawmill. He was employed there for 27 years. Mark had a great gratitude for his job and treasured his friendships he made with his colleagues that worked with him.
In 2019, Mark was diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer. He bravely battled it for 4 years. Even during his cancer battle, Mark never complained about what he faced. Mark often had a comical, witty sense of humour that often left the people around him in laughter. It was a wonderful talent that he had and even cancer couldn't take that away from him.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Christy; his mother Lorette Hall; mother-in-law Lynn Van Horn; His grandmother- in-law Pat McCammon; brother Bruce (Daunne); sister-in-law Lori Loset (David); brother-in-law Jason Van Horn; his amazing cousins David (Darcy) Wreggitt; John Wreggitt; Jean (Gerhart) Tejkel; Myrna (Paul) Fox; his loving nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friends Norm and Patti Schwegler and Dean and Rachele Bouvier.
Predeceased are his father Tom Hall, father-in-law Bill Van Horn and Grandmother Annette Hall.
Mark and his family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Vestvik and Dr. Niethammer. Nurses; Melody, Loretta, Dana, and the staff of Community Cancer Service and BVDH. Your care and guidance are deeply cherished by Mark and Christy.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to our dear friend Paulette for her all her care in keeping our home and cat safe while we were away.
We hope people who knew Mark find some comfort in the happy memories and know Mark is now at peace. To honour Mark's wishes we are having a Celebration BBQ on his favorite weekend, May 18, 2024. Further announcements will be made closer to the date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mark's memory to the Smithers Community Cancer Care Team, PO Box 3776, Smithers BC, V0J 2N0.
