February 4, 1928 - October 17, 2020
In loving memory of Margie McEwen (Hofsink). Born February 4, 1928, Bergentheim, Netherlands.
Called to her heavenly home, October 17, 2020, Smithers, B.C.
"Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days." Psalm 90:14 (one of Margie's favourite Psalms).
Margie was born to Jan and Regina Hofsink the oldest of nine children. In 1948, the entire Hofsink family immigrated to Houston, B.C. It was there Margie would meet and marry Harry McEwen, a young Canadian WW2 vet from New Brunswick, on November 9, 1950.
Harry did not speak Dutch and Margie spoke very little English...ahh love! They newlyweds began their lives together in Houston.
In the years following, God would bless them with 7 children and would find the family moving to New Brunswick and back again several times before finally settling in Smithers in 1983.
Those years found Margie hard at work, raising babies and caring for her family, tending to large gardens, canning, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking. As the years went by, the daily demands lessened, and Margie found time to pursue her love of auctions and early morning yard sales!
Margie enjoyed living at the Pioneer Place, grateful for the company of friends and close neighbors after Harry's passing in 1999. Margie looked forward to family visits, especially from her grandchildren and great grandchildren, gifting them with homemade sweaters, slippers, socks, toques and afghans! We will lovingly remember Margie's sparkling brown eyes, her genuine contentment in life and her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ.
As a family we would like to thank Drs. Page, Blouw and Barnard, all her wonderful Home Support "girls" and the compassionate care of the nurses during Margie's last weeks at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital.
Margie is survived by her 7 children, their spouses, 28 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren. Margie was predeceased by her husband Harry, her sister Sophie, her brother Fred and her grandson Jesse.
