Valk, Margaret (Oma, Maatje, Tante Ma) was called home to our Lord on Dec. 25, 2010.

Born Oct. 16, 1912 in Zaandam, Nederlands to Cornelius Kraay and Neeltje Schortinghuis. Oma was the fifth of 12 children – eight boys and four girls.

In 1937, at the age of 25, Oma married Pieter Valk and they were blessed with six children before their immigration to Canada. In August of 1951 they arrived in Smithers and in 1953 a seventh child was born.

Oma was predeceased by her loving husband Pieter Valk in 1972, six brothers, three sisters, grandson Duane Valk (1990), and two sons-in-law: John Veerbeek (2005) and Ross Jackson (2009).

She is survived by her children: Phil and Hanna Valk; Edmonton, AB; Keith and Trudy Valk, Calgary, AB; Helen Veerbeek (John†), Smithers, B.C.; Peter and Florence Valk, Fort St. James, B.C.; Frans and Els Valk, Spruce Grove, AB; Thea Jackson (Ross†), Spruce Grove, AB; Margaret and Henry Wisselink, Edmonton, AB. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, as well as two brothers, their families and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sincere thanks to the Bulkley Lodge staff for their special care of Oma the past five years and to Dr. Marius Scholtz.

A funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 30 at the Christian Reformed Church in Smithers with John Kerssies officiating. Interment took place at the Smithers Cemetery. Memorial tributes to the Bulkley Lodge were requested in lieu of flowers and can be sent to PO Box 360, Smithers, B.C., V0J 2N0.
